Overview
This self-paced reading material is combined with the other material “How to use Articulate Storyline?” to provide our MPSP Ph.D. students more theoretical foundations of instructional design via two famous scholars: Richard E. Mayer and
Robert Mills Gagné.
Process
To summarize my profession and instructional design skills in the most concise way, I decided to take these two scholars’ works to empower our students about instructional design.
From my personal point of view, “Gagné’s 9 Events of Instruction” offers instructional designers the best sequence to design a learning material. Students can click on different hotspots to understand each step to achieve the best learning design sequence.

However, to pinpoint one single learning block or element, Mayer’s 15 multimedia principles offer the instructional designers the best format to design the layout. Students can scroll through different principles to understand the application. I cited Andrew DeBell’s comparison pictures to help our students understand the differences between with and without the application of Mayer’s multimedia principles.

Results and Giveaway
Based on the epistemic emotions questionnaire, students felt amazed and surprised regarding the new format of instructional design at MPSP. Students also asked multiple questions regarding the application of multimedia principles on other authoring tools such as Microsoft PowerPoint. Students started to re-think and change the format and layout of their learning materials designs.
